Vehicles in Germany's City Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then located numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say initial examinations show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.

An important official commented the attack made him without words and had to be resolved quickly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
